There is something special about small spaces. They have their unique design challenges and limitations that spark creativity. This 750 square foot, one bedroom, one bathroom duplex is tucked into a cute, established neighborhood with mature trees, charm, and a little bit of quirk. From the start, we knew this renovation was not about pretending the space was something it wasn’t. The layout is choppy and compartmentalized, so instead of fighting it, we leaned in.
The goal was simple but bold: maximize every square foot and make the home feel cute, fun, and a little funky. In other words, embrace the funk.
The floor plan has clearly defined rooms with limited visual flow. In a larger home, this might feel restrictive, but here it became an opportunity. Each space was treated as its own moment, with personality and intention. Rather than forcing an open concept where it did not belong, we focused on cohesion through color, materials, and playful details that connect the rooms without flattening their individuality.
This approach allowed the unit to feel layered and interesting, like a series of experiences rather than one continuous space.
