Design Process

We understand the importance of a well-thought plan, especially when it comes to design. We believe that design is the most important component of a renovation, remodel, or even a simple refresh. Having solid design direction helps to keep the project on track, on time, and on budget. Therefore, a lot of work is done before any construction begins.

All major construction is complete, and the new space is ready for the final touches! After construction, Noun will decorate and style your space with accessories – some that you may be reusing and others may have been purchased during the design process. Noun may add additional décor and elements for the styling of photos. Most of the time, these additions are available for purchase. Noun will leave the items for you after the photo shoot and send you an invoice if you love them. Once the space has been styled, it is ready for after photos. These photos help capture the transformation and show how much your space has evolved from the beginning. Now that you have styled and photographed rooms, we leave you to enjoy your new space and all its beauty!

Final Styling & Photography

At this point, it is time to bring the design to life. We will start purchasing and ordering materials, so we are ready to start the transformation. The mess begins as demo starts and will continue as the rebuilding starts to take shape. A renovation can be overwhelming and stressful whether you choose to live in the construction zone or not. Be prepared to be uncomfortable as your life temporarily gets turned upside down. It will be well worth the roller coaster once your project is finished.

Ordering & Installation Phase

At this step, you are ready to move forward with construction. You love the design and selections and are ready to start the demo! The construction team will gather once more to see the final design selections that we’ve made, review any final drawings, floor plans, elevations, renderings, and any custom details. This meeting ensures that everyone is on the same page before construction starts. You and the contractor will receive a design binder to reference throughout the construction process.

Pre-Start Meeting & Design Binders

At this stage, Noun will create realistic 3D renderings of the finished space based on the finishes selected for your project. While this process initially started at the concept phase, the renderings will have evolved throughout the finish selection phase.

Furniture, décor, and accessories are some of the key components to elevating your space. Noun is here to help. This step is crucial in completing the design. The elements that fill your room are just as important as the renovation, and we want your new space to shine. Noun will help you allocate these finishing touches into your budget so you can have a completed space that makes you smile.

Furniture & Décor Selections

With a solid design direction and a contractor secured, you’re ready to finalize the selections. This is when we review materials for the design in detail, from counters, backsplash, flooring, paint, shower tile, and plumbing fixates (just to name a few). Based on past discussions, Noun will pull material options for you either in person with showroom visits or virtually if the product is being ordered online. This is the stage where the pieces of the puzzle start to come together!

Material Selections

Now it’s time to set up a meeting with the general contractor to estimate what’s required to bring the design to life. If you don’t have a contractor, Noun can help with that. In this meeting, we’ll discuss the project in detail, including the goals, materials, and overall budget. We will establish a rough timeline for the remainder of the project and set up a stream of communication that will be helpful during the process.

General Contractor Meeting

After gathering all the information needed, Noun will start to work behind the scenes to create the overall design direction by looking closely at form, function, and aesthetics, which are the key ingredients to a great design. This step will result in conceptual floor plans and 3D views that are ready for your feedback!

Please note, Noun Interiors is not a licensed architecture firm. We will always work with qualified architects and engineers if needed for your project. All our concept and construction drawings are notated with reminders that contractors must confirm all project dimensions before purchasing and installation.

Concept Development & Space Planning

This is the part where the creativity of the designer kicks into gear. Noun wants to get to your project’s core needs, wants, and goals through careful analysis and planning. At this point, it’s time to invite Noun to really get to know you and your family. The goal is to create a space that reflects you and tells your unique story so learning about you and your lifestyle is paramount.

Site Measure & Creativity Kick Start

After the design consultation, you have the option to complete the design on your own or hire Noun Interiors to bring your vision to life. If you need further design services, you will receive a design fee proposal with the number of design hours required to complete your specific project. Both the client and the designer will sign a design agreement to establish the working relationship between you and Noun. Upon accepting the proposal and signing the design agreement, a 25% retainer will be billed to get Noun started on your project.

All projects start with a design consultation. Sometimes, the consultation is all you need to get you on the right path, but if you need more help after the consult, Noun can do that too. The design consultation can cover a variety of topics, depending on your project and design needs. Items covered during the consult could include but are not limited to actionable design advice and direction, paint color selection, material discussion, layout, and space planning, etc.

During this call, you will talk to the designer, Chrissy. She will ask about your project to learn more about your needs for a designer to see if Noun Interiors is a good fit to help. She’ll also answer questions that you might have about the process. This phone call is up to 20 minutes.
